Barefoot Drumming Wonder

"...It began as a mistake. Stranded in Brighton on a gloomy October's day, a chair was dragged across weathered floorboards to the only window in the room. A photo was taken with a hand-me-down camera and available light for no other reason than to document our own existence.

What started as a spur of the moment action soon transformed into a persistent need to translate our emotions and thoughts into images to stand in our place. Driven by an unspoken mutual aesthetic, certain themes became recurrent; decay, containment, desire, longing and nostalgia for a lost elegance (one that possibly never existed).

Barefoot Drumming Wonder is as much a title as it is a statement of purpose; to express directly a raw, persistent, unbridled bewilderment at the beauty that surrounds us, especially that contained in the vitality of the human form.

A collection of photography, installation and film, Barefoot Drumming Wonder represents our best effort of communicating a particular desire. A consequence of our grandest illusions, it is our attempt to document existence whilst simultaneously recording the inevitability of decay. It's about ambition, and it's about failure. Aspiring to greatness only to fail. It is greatness that ultimately transcends us..."   - Chloe & Skye Sobejko
